Founded in 1990, in preparation for Gay Games III in Vancouver, Team New York Aquatics (TNYA) has grown into the largest LGBTQ+ swim team in the world. With over 600 athletes, TNYA is home to adult swimmers, water polo players, divers, synchronized swimmers, and open water swimmers of all abilities and aspirations.
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, and in honor of WorldPride, TNYA is hosting the 2019 International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) Championships. IGLA was formed in 1987, the year after Gay Games II, by LGBTQ swimmers who wanted to gather annually rather than every four years. It is both a vibrant organization and a championship meet with a commitment to the highest standards of aquatic competition and promoting participation in aquatic sports among LGBTQ and allied athletes.
IGLA 2019 is open to all adults who are members of their respective National Governing Bodies. Registration closes Monday, May 20. Visit www.igla2019.org for details.
